A week is a long time for Irish people living in virus-struck Italy

Elizabeth Looney is a teacher in the European School in Varese, about 50km from Milan. She lives there with her husband Patrick and their one-year-old daughter Lucia.

Only a week ago, life in many parts of Italy was carrying on. Friends meeting for an aperitivo, a kiss on each cheek, a slap on the back.

Days later, everything had changed.
