Alumni Europae ASBL proudly announces the participation of Nathalie Vanvelthoven in our upcoming Political Debate, a significant event in the lead-up to the European Elections 2024.

Nathalie Vanvelthoven with her own words:

‚Hello, I'm Nathalie!

I'm 29 years old, and on June 9th, I’m proud to say that I’ll be on the 4th place of the European list for Vooruit, the Flemish socialist party.

This will be the most exciting thing I've ever done in my life! And I know very well why I’m doing it: Because Europe is at an important crossroad.

I grew up in the serene landscapes of the province of Limburg, but my curiosity and sense of adventure took me far beyond Belgium. At just 17, I made the bold move to China to immerse myself in its language and culture: At Fusan University I studied Chinese Politics and Diplomacy.

I returned to Gent and Brussels in Belgium for university where I completed my master's degree at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). By now, I have been living and working in our capital for almost 8 years. Because of my years in China and my current job, I must admit I truly identify as a European citizen, more than I do as a Belgian.

My passion for politics was ignited by my involvement with the Young Socialists. Today, I work in the European Parliament for Vooruit MEP Kathleen Van Brempt, a role that is aligned with my deep-rooted European identity, shaped by my experiences in China and the diverse environment of Brussels. While Belgium is where I was born, Europe is where I truly feel I belong.

Why am I on a European list?

  1. I believe in a stronger Europe. Climate change, competing with countries like China and Russia, decent working conditions, and fair taxes are challenges we can only tackle together as a united Europe.
  2. Europe should be more than just an economic union. I advocate for a social Europe that cares for and invests in its people.
  3. Europe needs to redefine its role globally. That means reducing our reliance on others economically, investing in future industries, and forming equal partnerships with other continents.

Plus, Europe could do with a few more young people in its buildings!

I look forward to meeting all of you, Nathalie ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บโค๏ธโœŠ’
