You, this newsletter and growth

This newsletter seems to have a positive effect on our membership : in the last six months of 2013, we noticed that after each issue an average of fifty alumni subscribed to our website. This goes from a minimum of 13 to a maximum of 144 per month. Sofar, on 31/1/14, we are almost 900. Apparently this is due to the fact that many of you forward the newsletter to other potential members. This is encouraging us more than anything : thanks a lot and carry on, bearing in mind that students of the 6th and 7th classes, their parents and teachers – present and former – are most welcome to become part of the association too.

This growth and the services we offer are attractive for an increasing number of sponsors and partners. We are receiving financial support from an increasing number of Parent’s Associations. The attention from the Schools and the administration is growing. And other actors engaged in the support of the European ideal, such as Hans Mund in his Rock the Union show, help us to acquire more visibility.

We’re on the road again – next General Assembly in Frankfurt

Our association’s « traveling general assembly » will take place this year at the European School of Frankfurt, on the next 5th of April in the afternoon. The 2013 meeting in Luxemburg was a success : many ideas were aired, proposals were adopted, new members joined and a few volunteers entered the board. This year, the board will report on the progress made and submit some proposals to the assembly. It will also be the occasion to meet our hosts, the association of Frankfurt alumni, to learn from their experience and discuss how to increase our cooperation. So save the date – you will find the convocation below : details will follow in the next newsletter.

Hans is touring Europe, to Rock the Union

We follow with great interest Hans Mund’s Rock the Union tour. Hans describes himself as a citizen of the European Union and an active supporter of the European idea, without however being a blind believer in the European Union. Actually, he is rather critical about how the Union is doing. He lives Brussels – or rather is based in Brussels, since he recently entrusted his cat Pulitzer to friends and left for 132 days, to visit 116 European cities in all 28 EU member states.

His project consists in communicating at avery stop on the upcoming European elections and recording the reactions of the people he is meeting. During his trip, Hans will publish the material on Youtube and summaries on his blog. Later, he will publish a DVD and a book on the experience.

His intention is to alllow all of us « to share the statements on your social media and see who will like which statement. This way you will be able to see whom you have to provide with which information, your events and your campaigns. With the Rock the Union tour I give you access to an audience you would otherwise never reach ». To make more of it, look at www.rocktheunion.eu.

Charlie and Pierre-Brieuc are Looking into the Future

Charlie Sayers and Pierre-Brieuc Steen from the European School Culham have been chosen to present their science project at this year’s European School Science Symposium. We gladly foreward their request :

« We are two 13 year olds at European School Culham and we are going to the ESSS-14 in Varese in March. Our project is based on a brief survey ‘Looking into the future’ and we need as many replies as possible! We would be really grateful if you could spend 1-2 minutes to fill in our questionnaire. And even better if you can also send it on to family and friends – we’d like replies from children as well as adults. Here is the link to the questionnaires, in a choice of languages:

English : https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KRXP22G
German : https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KSVD7CP
Italian : https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KS5NWY5

Alumni excellencies

We are thinking of building a page ‘Alumni & Excellence’. Of course we are all unique and worth knowing. But there may be among your friends and acquaintances alumni that have reached levels of excellence that you would like to bring to wider attention. In that case, feel free to send a mail to (e-mail address) and explain why.
